What is chiropractic care and how does it work?

Chiropractic care is a natural, non-invasive approach to health that focuses on the relationship between the spine, the nervous system, and the body’s ability to heal itself. Through precise manual adjustments and complementary therapies, chiropractors correct spinal misalignments — called subluxations — that interfere with proper nerve function. By restoring proper alignment, chiropractic care reduces pain, inflammation, and nerve irritation while supporting the body’s own healing processes. Learn more on our Chiropractic Care page.

What conditions does Ash Chiropractic & Wellness treat?

We treat a wide range of musculoskeletal and nervous system conditions including back pain, neck pain, sciatica, headaches and migraines, disc herniation, degenerative disc disease, auto accident injuries, sports injuries, hip pain, knee pain, scoliosis, whiplash, tendonitis, and more. Visit our full Conditions Treated page for the complete list.

Do I need a referral to see Dr. Ash?

No referral is required. You can call us directly at (512) 868-6400 or book online to schedule your first appointment. We welcome new patients of all ages from Georgetown, TX, and the surrounding communities — no physician referral necessary.

What services does Ash Chiropractic & Wellness offer beyond chiropractic adjustments?

In addition to spinal manipulation and adjustment, we offer spinal decompression therapy, massage therapy, deep tissue laser therapy, LightForce® laser therapy, intersegmental traction therapy, muscle stimulation (E-Stim), cupping therapy, children’s chiropractic care, and nutritional counseling and weight loss support. Visit our Services page for the full list.

Is chiropractic care safe?

Yes. Chiropractic care is widely recognized as one of the safest non-invasive healthcare options available for musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction. Dr. Ash conducts a thorough evaluation — including health history review and physical examination — before any treatment to ensure the selected techniques are appropriate and safe for each individual patient. Serious adverse events from chiropractic care are extremely rare.

What should I expect at my first appointment?

The initial visit lasts approximately 45 minutes, and some therapies may be performed based on your condition and pain level. At your next appointment, Dr. Ash will review your findings and perform your first adjustment. A follow-up visit will then be scheduled to go over your tailored treatment plan based on your condition. Visit our Your First Visit page for more details.

How long does a typical chiropractic appointment take?

Follow-up appointments are typically 20–30 minutes. Your first visit is longer — approximately 45–60 minutes — to allow time for a thorough evaluation and care plan discussion. Treatment duration varies depending on the services included in your session. Visit our What to Expect page for a full overview of the visit experience.

Insurance & Payment Options

To provide the highest level of personalized care, our clinic is not in-network with most insurance plans, with the exception of Medicare. We gladly provide a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. We accept HSA/FSA payments and offer customized payment plans to make your care affordable and manageable.

Does Dr. Ash treat children?

Yes. We offer specialized children’s chiropractic care for patients from infancy through adolescence. Pediatric adjustments use gentle, age-appropriate techniques that are entirely safe and comfortable for young patients. Regular chiropractic care during childhood supports healthy spinal development, immune function, sleep quality, and overall well-being.

Can chiropractic care help during pregnancy?

Yes. We offer gentle maternity chiropractic adjustments throughout all three trimesters of pregnancy. Prenatal chiropractic care helps relieve lower back pain, hip pain, pelvic discomfort, and sciatica that commonly develop as the body changes during pregnancy. Proper pelvic alignment also supports optimal fetal positioning and may contribute to a more comfortable labor and delivery experience.

What is spinal decompression therapy and who is it for?

Spinal decompression therapy is a non-surgical, motorized traction treatment that gently stretches the spine to relieve pressure on intervertebral discs and spinal nerves. It is particularly effective for patients with disc herniation, degenerative disc disease, sciatica, and lower back pain that has not responded adequately to other conservative treatments. Many patients who have been told surgery is their only option find significant relief through spinal decompression without the need for surgical intervention.

What is LightForce® laser therapy?

LightForce® therapy is an FDA-cleared Class IV therapeutic laser system that uses high-powered light energy to stimulate healing at the cellular level through a process called photobiomodulation (PBM). It reduces inflammation, accelerates tissue repair, and relieves pain deep within muscles, tendons, joints, and spinal structures — without surgery or medication. It is trusted by professional, collegiate, and Olympic sports teams worldwide and is available at Ash Chiropractic & Wellness for a wide range of acute and chronic conditions.

What makes Dr. Ash uniquely qualified compared to other chiropractors?

Dr. J. Brooksie Ash, D.C., R.D., holds a rare dual credential — he is both a Doctor of Chiropractic (earned with honors from Texas Chiropractic College) and a Registered Dietitian and Applied Clinical Nutritionist. With over 20 years of experience, he has treated professional athletes including players from the New Orleans Saints. This combination of credentials means that patients at Ash Chiropractic & Wellness receive comprehensive care addressing both spinal health and overall wellness — including nutritional guidance — that most chiropractic offices cannot offer. Read more on our About page.

Can chiropractic care help me avoid surgery?

In many cases, yes. Research consistently shows that conservative chiropractic care — including spinal adjustments, spinal decompression, and laser therapy — can produce outcomes equivalent to or better than surgery for many disc herniation, sciatica, and degenerative spine patients, without the associated risks and recovery time. We strongly encourage all patients who have been recommended surgery for a spinal condition to seek a comprehensive conservative care evaluation at Ash Chiropractic & Wellness before making that decision.

How do I prepare for my first chiropractic appointment?

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows for easy movement and access to the spine and joints. Bring a valid photo ID, your insurance card, a list of any current medications, and any relevant medical records or imaging such as X-rays or MRIs you may have. You can also complete your new patient intake forms online before your visit to save time. Arriving a few minutes early is always helpful.

Do chiropractic adjustments hurt?

Most patients find chiropractic adjustments comfortable or even immediately relieving. You may hear a popping sound during the adjustment — this is simply the release of nitrogen gas from the joint and is entirely normal. Some patients experience mild, short-lived muscle soreness after their first few sessions, similar to post-workout soreness. This typically resolves within 24–48 hours. Dr. Ash always adapts his techniques to each patient’s individual comfort level and health status.
